Yacht Club Manager Celebrates International Women’s Day March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day for celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women all around the world. Mackay Yacht Club Manager, Samantha Bellamy sees the day as a chance to reflect on her own achievements.
Like many of today’s women, Sam understands the challenges of balancing work and family life as she has worked hard to build a fulfilling career whilst raising her 12 year-old son Jesse. Her life-long passion for singing has also led her to complete a Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music; she will graduate in April. Sam credits a lot of her success to having a supportive family that is always there for her.
After co-owning a transport business for 15 years, Sam moved into hospitality where she rapidly worked her way up from bar staff to supervisory positions. Late last year, she was appointed Manager of Mackay Yacht Club and she is thriving on the challenge of helping an already successful business grow further to make the most of its prime location.
As Manager, Sam takes a hands-on approach to all aspects of running the Club, from office duties to serving drinks at the bar. Sam loves the opportunity to interact with customers and she really enjoys the friendly family atmosphere of the Yacht Club and, of course, the fantastic views.
Sam has a number of exciting ideas for Club events, including theme nights, and wine tastings. She also plans a greater emphasis on functions, especially weddings, as well as more opportunities to highlight local talent with live entertainment sessions. Keep an eye on the Club website for details of future events.
One very special event coming up soon is Mother’s Day, on Sunday May 9th. To celebrate the day, Tradewinds Bistro will hold a special breakfast, and Sam will perform some of her favourite songs during lunch. From the 9th of May onwards, Sunday breakfast will be a regular part of the Bistro week.
Sam has lived in Mackay for 21 years and she loves it here. After growing up in Emerald, she particularly enjoys living near the sea and spends a lot of her spare time fishing – she could not resist the opportunity to show off her Saturday night catch.
Next time you drop by the Club, say hello to Sam and her friendly staff. They will always make you feel welcome at Mackay Yacht Club.
