Australia Day Celebrations

Members and guests of Mackay Yacht Club didn’t let rain dampen their fun on Australia Day.

The day kicked off with an Aussie BBQ, pie eating competition and backyard cricket. Seventeen competitors also took part in a thong throwing competition, with a new ‘world record’ set thanks to the 60kph tail winds.

"We were very pleased with the turnout, considering the weather,” said Club Commodore Lloyd Davey. “We are planning more wet weather options for next year just in case... Marbles, darts and a putting competition will all be on the agenda in 2011.”

In the evening, club members and guests enjoyed live music and dinner in the Tradewinds Bistro.
