2003 SEASON

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1.Rules

The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing AYF 2001-2004, the prescriptions of the AYF, the rules of the relevant classes, except as any of these are changed by these sailing instructions, and by these sailing instructions. The season is designated category “b” advertising.

2. Entries

            Eligible boats may be entered by signing on and paying the race fees before the days racing and immediately signing off after returning to Mackay Yacht Club.  Eligibility requirements for boats are, off the beach dinghy or catamaran and public liability insurance.

3.Notices to competitors

            Notices to competitors will be posted on the race office window, down stairs MYC.

4.Changes in Sailing instructions

            Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted one hour before the races it will effect.

5.Signals Made Ashore.

5.1    Signals made ashore will be displayed on the flag mast, MYC.

5.2    Flag AP with two sound signals (one sound signal when lowered) means ‘the race is postponed. The warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after AP is lowered’

6.Schedule Of Races

            As per sailing calendar.

7. Class Flags

            Sabot- Junior and Senior, Sabot class flag, all start together.

Monohulls – Laser and MG14, Laser class flag, all start together.

Multihulls - code flag  “E”.

8. Racing Area

The racing areas will be will be determined at briefing. Refer to attachment 1, Racing area map.

9. The Course

             The courses will be as follows, except as changed at briefing.

Junior Mono Short- From the start, to buoys A, B, C, A, C, then to the finish, all to port.

Junior Mono Long- From the start, to buoys A, B, C, A, C, A, B, C, then to the finish, all to port.

Senior Mono Short- From the start, to buoys D, E, F, D, F, then to the finish, all to port.

 Senior Mono long- from the start, to buoys D, E, F, D, F, D, E, F, then to the finish, all to port.

Multihulls Short- from the start to buoys D, E, F, D, F, D, E, F, then to the finish, all to port.

Multihulls Long- from the start to buoys D, E, F, D, F, D, E, F, D, F, then to the finish, all to port.

 

10. Marks

            Marks will be confirmed at briefing.

            Marks A & D windward mark

            Marks B & E wing mark

            Marks C & F leeward mark

Description- all marks will be described at briefing.

11. Obstructions

            The line between the danger marks around the old sugar wharf shall form an obstruction that will apply at all times. No boat shall go within this area at any time. The committee may disqualify boats entering this area without protest.

12. The Start

            12.1 Races will be started as follows. This changes rules 26.1and 30. Times shall be taken from the visual signals; the failure of a sound signal shall be disregarded.

            Warning-                    Five minutes- Class flag-                  1 sound

Preparatory-              Four minutes-            Blue peter-                 1 sound

                                                One minutes- Blue peter drops-      1 sound

            Start-                           Zero minutes-            Class flag drops-       1 sound

            Succeeding classes will be started at any time after the starting signal for the preceding class by displaying the warning signal for the succeeding class.               12.2. The starting line shall be between the class flag on the committee boat at the starboard end and the start mark at the port end; a barging buoy will be in use. Boats are to pass between the start mark & the barging buoy when starting.

            12.3 Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall keep clear of the starting area and of all boats whose warning signal has been made.

            12.4 A boat shall not start later than 15 minutes after her starting signal.


13. The Finish

13.1 The finish line will be between the blue flag on the committee boat and the nearby mark. Boats shall finish in the direction from the last mark.      

14. The Time Limit

            The time limit will be 150 minutes for all classes. Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat finishes or within the time limit, whichever is later, will be scored Did Not Finish. This alters rule 35.

15. Protests

            17.1 Protests shall be on written forms available at the race office and delivered there within 60 minutes of last boat finishing.

            17.2 Protests will be heard as notified by protest committee.

16. Scoring

            The low point scoring system, rule A2, will apply, except as modified below.

            The following shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the total number of starters in the race.

            DNS    Did not start

            OCS   On course side of starting line

            DNF    Did not finish

            RET    Retired after finishing

           

Handicap pointscore - 34 races are scheduled, of which the best 75% of completed races shall count.

                        Championship- 8 races are scheduled, of which the best 6 shall count.

17. Prizes

            Prizes will be awarded at the committee’s discretion.
